Fahrenheit Chicago–Pride South on the Lake to Honor Health Advocates
Recognition will cap daylong South Side beach party on Sunday
CHICAGO (August 25, 2017)–Two public health advocates who work to improve the lives of LGBTQ Illinoisans will be honored Sunday at Fahrenheit Chicago–Pride South on the Lake, an end-of-summer, daylong beach party that will feature entertainment, games, civic engagement, and health outreach.
The two honorees are Anne Carmack of the CORE Foundation and Serette King of Howard Brown Health. They will be recognized with the Fahrenheit Accolade in the concluding ceremony of Fahrenheit Chicago, which runs 11am-7pm on Sunday, August 27 at Oakwood Beach, on the Chicago Lakefront at 41st Street.
“We are honoring these two health advocates for the years they have dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ Illinoisans and other vulnerable populations,” said Brian C. Johnson, CEO of Equality Illinois. “Fahrenheit Chicago–Pride South on the Lake is a fun day for our community to come together, listen to some great entertainment and enjoy our grand lakefront. But we also want to highlight the hard work by people such as Anne and Serette who serve the community every day.”
Anne Carmack is the Grants/Development Manager at the CORE Foundation, an affiliate of the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center, the largest provider of HIV/AIDS services in Chicago and the Midwest. She works with public health agencies to develop projects and find funding to support the provision of services for some of Cook County’s most at-risk and vulnerable populations.
Serette King is the Manager of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Outreach Services at Howard Brown Health. He supports and promotes prevention programs for HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections and connects those living with HIV/AIDS to care and treatment.
The recognition ceremony will conclude a day filled with music, beach games, and a bid whist tournament. There will be civic engagement opportunities for the attendees, such as voter registration, and health outreach booths.
The non-stop action on the main stage, sponsored by CALOR-AHF, which supports Latinx people living with or affected by AIDS, is headlined by international queer rap artist Cakes da Killa, whose debut album drops this fall, and singer-songwriter Cor.Ece. Fahrenheit Chicago–Pride South on the Lake is presented by Equality Illinois and AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Many Chicago and Illinois organizations are supporting Fahrenheit–Pride South on the Lake. The presenting sponsor is Howard Brown Health.
